| Filtering Options
Though
Spam-Stopper does not require filters to stop spam, there may be a time that you
would want to use some of these options. Advanced users that have already been
using filters will love some of the added benefits.
Regular Spam-Stopper
users may enjoy learning and using some of the easy to use filters and options.
An example of this would be to use the auto-response
bounce feature that sends your comment back to the spammer.
Filter
options can be used on any mailbox. If you give out a virtual email address and
would like to filter it, you will need to create a mailbox using that email name
and then start filtering it. You can always test functions by simply sending yourself
email to your virtual email addresses and mail boxes.
The
first step in using the filter menu will be to "Add A New Filter". Without
having a filter added there is nothing else that you can do at this point.
The
View / Edit option will allow you to use the advanced options.
The Change
Order option is used so that you can have it perform one filter before it does
another. Lets say that you were blocking all mail sent to Tina@, but you also
had a filter to forward all email with the title "Pass This One" to
your real email address.
If the filter to delete the mail sent to tina@
came before the forward filter, the message would be deleted. On the other hand,
if the filter to forward mail with the subject to you came first, it would forward
it before it was deleted. So you would use the option to change the order of your
filters, so that they would work in the order that you needed them.
A simple
Test:
Send yourself an email to anything@your-user-name.spam-stopper.net
Check to see that you get the email.
Now we are ready to proceed.
Click
on "Add A New Filter"

Type
in the email address name, that you sent to in the last step with an @ after it
and then click on BLOCK.
Now send the email again. You will see that it
has been blocked.
Now click on "View / Edit / Remove Filters"
Click
on "Advanced View"
Put a check in the box for "Auto Respond"
Type
something into the "Response:" line as shown below and then click on
Save.
Note:
You
can type up to 512 characters
into the Response line. The characters ~ # & | [ ] ; " < > ? are
NOT accepted.
Send
yourself an email at the same address. If the filter worked, you will get the
bounced response.
You
can perform similar tests for all of the filters. You must create a filter before
it will show up in the "View
/ Edit / Remove Filters" area. You can use the auto respond feature with
all filters.
Other filters that you can test or put into action are:
Block
Rules
Forwarding
Rules
If
you know how to add Perl RegEx's in your expressions, you will need to put a check
in the box in the advanced menu to use them.
